  • What does an OT driving assessment consist of?

Vision screening is also conducted during this phase. The second component takes place on the road, involving an assessment conducted in a vehicle alongside the therapist and a qualified driving instructor. This on-road assessment aims to identify any medical or physical conditions that might hinder the individual's ability to drive safely.


    Following the assessment, the assessor provides recommendations to support continued safe driving. These recommendations may include:


    • Suggesting potential vehicle modifications to enhance driver performance and confidence.
    • Offering strategies that can improve safe driving practices, such as limiting driving to daytime hours or short distances from home.
    • Providing guidance on the management and ongoing monitoring of the individual's driving abilities.
    • Arranging for additional driving lessons to enhance the individual's learning and safety on the road.
